Born in 1966 at Silchar, Assam. Sri Santanu Paul started his theatre life during his schooldays and established his own theatre group Bhabikal, Silchar during his college life in the year 1984.With his early plays Santanu gained notice as a promising actor. After that in the year1994, as an actor, director Santanu has used theatre effectively for social change and civil rights and won a number of awards for his works in both State and National level theatre competition. He has acted and directed more than 45 plays. Some important Stage play’s Directed and Acted by him are “Hanua ka Bata” “ Choor” “Court Marshal” folk play “Monosa” Tagore’s play “Aocholayatan”  William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” “Sadananda The Idiot” and these plays are selected as a show cases of various National and International Theatre Festivals . He has also acted at several Radio dramas as a B-high artist from 1996 in the All India Radio, Silchar .Apart from this, Mr Santanu has acted in several TV play & Regional Films like  “Shood” directed by Debobrata Choudhury,  “ Nadi Nari ebong Eai Sahar” directed by Biswajit Seal. He has availed himself of the opportunity of residential theatrical training under the guidance of Padmashree H. Kanhailal for one year and had worked as an actor in the play Tagore’s Dakghar under the direction of Padmashree H. Kanhailal and performed the play at Rabindasadan, Kolkata,(Aug’2006) Prithvi Theater, Mumbai, (Nov’2006). Mr Santanu is associated with Kala Academy,(a theatre training institution)Silchar, as a Director of Children Theatre and also worked as a co-ordinator of Children Theatre Workshop organised by National School of Drama, New Delhi in the year Nov’2007, July’2008, May’2009, Feb’2010, Feb’2011  at Silchar.  He had organised NSD  Rep.Co.Drama Festival’ 2008 at Silchar &  6th National Puppetry Festival of Sangeet Natak Akademi at Silchar, Bratyajon Theatre Festival,2016,NEZCC North east Theatre Festival ,2016, Purvatar Natya  Samaruho,2017 by Sangeet Natak Akedemy, National Festival of Narrative Arts,2018 . He has been invited by Spazio Seme(International Artistic centre for Theatre) for participating in the International Theatre Symposium at Arezzo, Rome, Italy,in the year 2018 and attended the same. He has also been selected as the faculty of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi  in the year 2010.  He had the opportunity to participate in the North-East Children Theatre festival at Delhi(2009),Kolkata(2010) & Mumbai(2011). He has been conducting theatre workshop every year since 2007 at Silchar and various other remote corner of the valley and also conducting regular theatre workshop at School , Colleges and University level to spread and popularise the theatrical activities in the valley amongst the people. He also has the work experience with renowned theatre personalities like Mr.Salaim Arif (NSD), Mr Rudraprasad Sengupta(Kolkata), Avinash Despandey(NSD), Monoj Saikia(NSD),Adrija Dasgpta(NSD)and many others. He has recently started six month certificate course on Acting for the youth in collaboration with Kala Academy, Silchar.
